Three Ways To Measure Your Child's Feet
It has been said that children are constantly growing so this also means that their shoe sizes constantly increase. When buying shoes for children, it would be best if you keep their shoe size updated. Do not go shoe shopping if you haven't re-measured your child's feet.
There are several ways on how to measure your child's feet although the best way is to bring them with you when shoe shopping. But in case they cannot come, here are some ways to keep your child's shoe size updated.
1. Trace it. This is an old practice and is somehow effective. If you get confused with the inches and centimetres and find it rather complicated, then tracing your child's feet is your answer. The first thing you do is to prepare a piece of paper and a sharpened pencil. Next, tell your child to place his foot preferably the left since this is usually bigger than the right, on the clean piece of paper.
Holding the pencil upright, trace the edges of his or her foot making sure that the pencil is as close to the foot as possible. You can measure the length of the foot and by deducting 5mm from the actual length you will end up with your child's shoe size. If you are reluctant to calculate then you can always cut off the tracing and then take the tracing with you to the shoe store.
2. Line it. This process of measuring your child's feet still involves pen and paper. Before you ask your child to place his larger foot on the paper draw a long straight line. Next ask your child to put his feet on the paper with the longest toe on the center on the line. Mark the tip of the toe and the heel. Then measure the length of your child's foot.
If you have a shoe size conversion table available at your house, then you can use it to determine your child's shoe size by comparing the length to the appropriate values on the chart. If you don't have a table then you can take it with you to the shoe store since most shoe stores have shoe size conversion tables.
3. Wet Imprints. This is also another way of measuring your child's foot. This is best done when your child's feet are wet or when they just stepped out of the shower or bath tub. What you are going to do is take a piece of paper when their foot is still wet and ask them to place their foot on the paper. The process will leave a wet imprint of their foot on the paper. With the imprint still wet trace it.
By tracing the wet imprint, you will also be able to tell as to how much arch cushioning your child needs aside from the size. If he has a high arc, then you will need more cushioning but if he has a low arc, then you will need a shoe that will provide adequate arc support. When the imprint is kidney shaped then all you need is a shoe that provides moderate movement control.
Children's shoe size should be updated regularly. With an updated shoe size you will be assured that your child is wearing the right pair of shoes.
