The Shoe Classics

The design of shoes has changed over the years. Many trends have come and go and have even returned to the market. Even the material has changed over time, from the classic patent leather to the current shoes made of synthetic materials. But there are three types of shoes that remain constant fixtures in the world of shoe fashion. These have stood the test of time and still remain as relevant to the times as these were when they were first introduced. Here are the shoe classics.

1) The black ladies pumps

There is no known history of the very first designed black ladies pumps. But the basic design has remained the same throughout the years. The patent leather surrounding the toes and the wide foot entry are classically tailored designs still used by many fashion design houses in Europe and the United States. The heel is elevated from one inch to at most three inches in height. This pair of shoes has been used to match office attires worldwide and has even sashayed on runways in many fashion capitals. In the end, it is still as trendy as it was and it is now owing to its timeless design.

2) The men's wingtips

First introduced in the 1920's from discards of other leather shoes, the wingtip design features sharp contours with holes perforated on the leather. They are long shoes with as much as an inch to two inches allowance from the toe to the inside end of the shoe. Initial breakthroughs include having two-toned wing tips and the classic all black wing tips. It is called wingtips because the sewn edges of the shoe have long looping edges, much like a bird's wings. This is best used as formal leather shoes for suits but can also be carried using denims.

3) The penny loafers

Penny loafers are semi formal shoes made of leather. It was called such because at times the strap covering the tongue of the shoe was fitted with a penny for good luck. It can be used both by men and women as the lines provide no distinct gender characteristics. Over the years, differing material and heel designs have been made but the general characteristic of the strap near the tongue with a penny ensures the classic and timeless appeal of these pair of shoes.

Shoe designs have been as wide and differentiated as the designers themselves. Many trends such as strappy sandals or wedges or even military inspired work boots have come and gone in shoe stores worldwide. But these three kinds of shoes have remained constant through these changes. The ladies black pumps for its versatility from party going shoes to office attire ensembles has remained a staple in many ladies' shoe cabinets. For men, the wingtips with its line sweeping and dotted designs are must haves for many who have an office suit or semi formal wear. And the penny loafers, for its unisexual appeal and its ease in comfort and design makes it easy to wear and easy to make as part of an outfit.
